PAX RISING ONLINE

PAX Rising Showcase is a Discord-based community event celebrating indie games. Over the two days in July, a curated list of indie gems will offer a totally free demo for you to try out paired with a full schedule of content ranging from in-depth roundtables talking about various aspects of the game industry all the way to the PAX community playing silly Discord games to win free games.

Developer Sessions

Learn more about the devs that make the games with a series of roundtable discussions covering games industry topics, post-mortem sessions covering what it was like to create the games, and developer let’s plays where you can hear what they've got to say about their own creations!

Discord Activities

Hang out with the PAX Community and play an odd assortment of silly games over the course of the event, ranging from our own collection of PAX Games (All Hail Ball) to Jackbox and Gartic Phone! Oh, we should also mention, we’ll be making it rain free game codes throughout the event...so if you like free games, you really want to participate in our Discord.

Schedule Details

PAX Rising Online Direct

Saturday, July 9th @ 9:00 AM PT

Tycho and Kris Straub will introduce you to all of the participating games of PAX Rising Online, each of which will be available to try out during the event for free!

Roundtable #1: Designing Games

Saturday, July 9th @ 2:00 PM PT

We’ve gathered a team of indie game designers to talk about what it means to “design a game”.

Moderated by Dan Bernardo (Playtra, Grid Force), and featuring Vicky Wei (Redstart Interactive, Get-A-Grip Chip), Mason Remaley (Anthropic Studios, Way of Rhea), and Ross Przbylski (D20Studios, Summoners Fate).

Roundtable #2: Advice for Aspiring Game Developers

Saturday, July 9th @ 5:00 PM PT

If you’ve ever wanted to have a hand in making a game but you’re just not sure where to start, who better to learn from than a group of game developers?

Moderated by Dave Wightman (Reclamation Games, Reina & Jericho) and featuring Riccardo Amico (Playtra, Grid Force - Mask of the Goddess), Sadie Jarvis (Gerdoo Games / Republic of Jungle), and Tristan Barona (Taco Pizza Cats, KindFolx).

Roundtable #3: Picking New Projects

Sunday, July 10th @ 9:30 AM PT

Picking the next project is a decision that dictates not just however many years of development, but it’s the first and most important decision over the course of any game’s development.

Moderated by Sadie Jarvis (Gerdoo Games / Republic of Jungle) and featuring Andrew Trese (Trese Brothers Games, Cyber Knights: Flashpoint), Nicola Strina (Playtra Games, Grid Force - Mask of the Goddess), and Karam Al-Kofahi (RalphGame)

Roundtable #4: Balancing Game Development with Life

Sunday, July 10th @ 11:00 AM PT

You don’t think “crunch” is something exclusive to AAA developers, do you? Often indie developers can have the same time pressures of the development itself while also wearing all the other hats required to launch a successful game.

Moderated by Tony Walsh (Phantom Compass, Rollers of the Realm: Reunion) and featuring Michael Hammon (Big Blue Bubble, Power Chord), Sophie Schiaratura (Fishing Cactus, Outshine), and Eric Kesterson (Type 3 Studios, Super Marxist Twins)

Roundtable #5: The Many Influences of Being an Original

Sunday, July 10th @ 2:00 PM PT

No matter how unique a game may feel, it’s inescapably a product of the developers' influences over the years....the only question is how hard (if at all) those influences are masked.  What creatively drives developers, and how they can wear their influences like a badge of honor without feeling like they’re ripping anyone off.

Moderated by Vicky Wei (Redstart Interactive, Get-A-Grip Chip) and featuring Cory Trese (Trese Brothers Games, Cyber Knights: Flashpoint), Thomas Keane (Godolphin Games, Unknown Number: A First Person Talker), and Dave Wightman (Reclamation Games, Reina & Jericho)

Post-Mortem Sessions

Jackbox Games

Saturday @ 12:30 PM PT and Sunday @ 3:30 PM PT

Let's see how many Arcadians we can cram into some Jackbox games, shall we?

Gartic Phone

Saturday @ 3:30 PM PT and Sunday @ 5:00 PM PT

The less you know about this game, the better...but you might want to clear some floor space for some serious ROFLing.

Silly Discord Games

Saturday @ 11:00 AM PT and Sunday @ 12:30 PM PT

If you’ve participated in any of our prior PAX Online events, you know we’ve got our own home-grown suite of silly Discord games, like our Beach Ball game, our Typing or Math Challenges, and such. Sometimes they work! Will they work this time? Only one way to find out!
